Why do dogs vomit out of the blue?

Dogs are pretty much able to vomit at will. If their stomachs feel a little queasy or painful or irritated, up comes whatever the stomach held. I think I'd skip the beef rawhide next time and get him something else. The brown goo was probably the beef coating mixed with sticky stomach fluids.
