Why do people consider Jews White, and why do they claim to be White?

Jews are an ethno-religious group, these people trace their roots back to parts of the Middle East and Africa, they are not gentile White Euros. Why do so many claim to be White. They are Semitic people, therefore NOT White. Any real White Jews are not ethnically Jewish they are just Jewish converts.
