After a membrane stripping how long/how much should i be bleeding?

Yesterday around 3 o clock I had my membranes stripped and I had some bleeding right after that but my doctor said it should stop after a few hours. Since then I've gone through at least 5 pads, the blood is pretty dark but there's definetly a lot of it. I passed my whole mucus plug about a week or two ago but today a very mucusy goo was there when I wiped just now (sorry if this is too much info)What could this mean? I've also been having bad cramps in my stomach and back, nothing consistent though. I was just wondering if this bleeding and other symptoms are normal, what are your opinions on this? Oh and by the way I am 40 weeks 1 day pregnant, at my last check up I was 2cm dilated and 50 to 75% effaced.
